Synners took the three points with a 2-1 win over Newcastle University thanks to a Luke Drummond brace.

An early chance for Billingham saw Matty Wilson cross from the right to Danny Chapman on the far side; his header on goal comfortable for University keeper Daniel Devanski.

The visitors threatened with a couple of chances when firstly a free-kick into the box saw a close range shot on goal which Synthonia keeper Jaan Yaqub blocked and then a free-kick in a central position from Ryan Redford went over the bar.

Synners were denied by the frame of the goal when Max Craggs sent a free-kick into the box for Chapman who saw his effort off the cross-bar, the follow up shot from Kurtis Howes bringing a finger-tip save on the goal-line from Devanski.

A Craggs free-kick deflected just wide before Synthonia opened the scoring in the 43rd minute with Craggs' corner on the right seeing LUKE DRUMMOND acrobatically managing to get his head on the ball to see it home.

Half-time: Synners 1, Newcastle University 0

The Uni threatened after the restart with a couple of efforts on goal which were blocked by Synners defenders. Then a ball into the box saw substitute Tom Romano turn and shoot, but wide of Yaqub's goal.

Synthonia threatened with Wilson coming in from the right and shooting over before Newcastle advanced and a forward saw sight of goal from a tight angle on the right and saw his shot into the near side netting.

Billingham doubled their lead in the 84th minute with Craggs again linking up with LUKE DRUMMOND as his left-wing corner found the defender at the back post who rose to head home.

Newcastle University were soon back in the game as they found the net in the 86th minute with a volleyed shot from the edge of the box from JACK BUTLER beating Yaqub at his left hand post.

The visitors had a couple of late chances from set plays as the game approched added-on time, but Synthonia held on to take the points.
