Billingham left it late to claim the three points in a tightly contested matach against Ryton & Crawcrrok Albion.

The opening quarter of an hour saw little in the way of goal chances from either side with only a 6th minute free-kick into the box from the visitors seeing Synners keeper Dan Dixon save.

Synthonia opened the scoring in the 20th minute when after some good work from Brad Mills on the left, he played to KURTIS HOWES who shot home into the bottom right corner of the net.

Synners advanced soon after with John Howard making a good run before being brought down; Mills' free-kick striking the defensive wall and Howes with the loose ball seeing his shot blocked.

Howard again made a strong run and created a shooting opprtunity on the half hour but his shot was straight at Ryton keeper Daniel Gladstone. Ryton then threatened with a long free-kick coming to Scott Jasper who could only loop his shot over the bar.

A couple of shots on goal from the right from the visitors saw Dixon behind to save and then the keeper was off his line quickly to block the second effort.

There were chances for both sides before the break with a Mills corner on the left being cleared as far as Jack Bailey who had his shot blocked. Ryton then won possession but Rhys McLeod could only send his shot wide of the left hand upright.

Half-time: Synners 1, Ryton & Crawcrook Albion 0

As in the first half, the opening quarter of an hour of the second period saw few goal chances. Ryton won a free-kick on the hour mark though, with the shot going past the left hand post.

In the 64th minute Ryton came forward with Dixon down to make a save from Jasper, a couple of minutes later and Billingham won a free-kick on the edge of the box which Howard sent wide of the target.

Ryton levelled the game up from the penalty spot in the 72nd minute following a foul by Mason McNeill; CALLUM TURNBULL stepping up to convert the spot-kick.

Synthonia came close to regaining the lead with Howard seeing his shot well saved by Gladstone. They would add a second though when an 84th minute Mills free-kick into the box saw skipper JOSH ROWBOTHAM ghost in to see the ball home from close range.

Billingham had chances to extend their lead in the closing stages with substitute Ciaran Banks being taken out by Turnbull who can consider himself lucky to stay on the pitch after receiving a caution in the first half. The free-kick cleared as far as Howes who shot wide. Then into added-on time Banks made a strong run from the half-way line into the box and looked to have been brought down; penalty appeals waved away.
