Billingham opened their 2020/21 home games with a convincing win over Carlisle City.

Synners were quick out the blocks and opened the scoring in the 3rd minute as Foster Garton's cross from the right was met by KURTIS HOWES who stormed into the box and headed home.

The lead was doubled in the 24th minute with BEN JACKSON latching onto a ball forward and going past a defender before finding the bottom corner of the net with his shot.

Synthonia had further chances as Jackson shot to the near post from the right which keeper Steven Townsley saved. Howes then saw a rasping shot go just over the bar. City tried to get back into the game, but their only real chance of the half saw a Robert McCartney shot from the edge of the penalty area go over the bar.

Billingham added a third before the break when a free-kick from Joe Scaife-Wheatley saw Townsley block, but he couldn't hold on and BEN JACKSON was on hand to find the net from close range.

Half-time: Synners 3, Carlisle City 0

Substitute Danny Chapman set up the 4th goal as he latched onto a ball forward from midfield and squared to the open IAN WARD who made no mistake with his 52nd minute shot into the net.

The visitors created a couple of chances mid-way through the half with a McCartney shot from an acute angle on the right seeing Synners keeper Ollie Simpson save with an outstretched leg. Then a run down the right saw a Carlisle player pick out Michael Slack with his shot going narrowly over the bar.

Synthonia completed the scoring after 74 minutes as Howes made a run into the box on the right and his cross, aimed at Chapman, was turned into his own net by KIERON OLSEN.
