It was 3rd vs 5th as Synners visited a cold and windy Ryton on Friday night. The home side began on the front foot and maybe should have been awarded a penalty early in the half. The ball was received on the centre circle by Cooper who played Hodges through on goal. Bashir challenged the attacker who went to ground claiming he'd been pushed; the referee waved away the appeals.

Foster Garton was fouled on the left side of play when Thompson came in late with a reckless challenge. Matty Wilson whipped in a dangerous looking freekick which sailed past everyone in the box. There were a couple of lunges toward the ball from Synners players but no attempt on goal.

A period of disappointing defending lead to the first goal of the game, which came the way of the home side. A long ball from the goal keeper sailed over the Synners defensive line and SCOTT JASPER judged the bounce well and finished with a looping header over the oncoming Orton. Ryton 1, 0 Synners.

Garton came close to pulling level for the away side after hitting a shot from 20 yards out, which was saved by Graham. The effort look as though it was flying into the bottom right corner of the net, but the keeper made a diving save to push it wide.

Half-time: Ryton & Crawcrook Albion 1, Synners 0

The home side began the second-half the same way they ended the first. A freekick whipped in from Cooper was headed clear by Dom O;Connor; Dunn picked up the clearance and crossed a ball into the area from the right. After a mad scramble in the box, the ball fell kindly to SCOTT JASPER who scored his second of the game from just a few yards out. Ryton 2, 0 Synners.

Jasper was involved in another promising attack shortly after. The striker made his way into the right side of the box, pulling the ball back to Norris who was on the brink of the 6 yard box. Norris would have made it three if it wasn't for an alert piece of defending from Chris Salmon, who cleared the ball off the line.

Danny Earl had a couple of good chances to shorten the margin, the first coming from a Matty Wilson cross. The ball found Earl at the front post who controlled the ball before firing a shot which was blocked by Moody. The second came when a defensive header played the striker straight through on goal. The Ryton defence were caught sleeping but Earl couldn't capitalise as he hit his shot too close to the keeper.

Synners created a few half chances towards the end of the game but couldn't get themselves back into the competition. It wasn't the best performance from Synthonia, and the game wasn't one to remember.
