Synners were looking to close the gap on 4th placed Carlisle City on Saturday, and got off to a fast start after a Matty Wilson freekick was smashed home by DANNY EARL in the 2nd minute. The freekick was hit low into the area, and there was a mad scramble before the ball fell kindly to Earl. The striker finished an easy chance to continue his impressive start with the club. Synners 1, 0 Carlisle City.
Matty Wilson was involved in another promising attack for Synners after he was played through on goal from a defensive clearance. Wilson was under pressure from a defender and opted to hit a shot from outside the area which was caught easily by Newton.
Synners went 2 goals ahead after ALEX BRUTON was played through on goal. He hit a low shot from outside the area which went under Newton and into the back of the net. Bruton was under pressure when lining up the shot, but Synners took a 2 goal lead before heading into the break. Synners 2, 0 Carlisle City.
The home side dominated the first half and almost extended the difference to 3 just before the break. Bruton was fouled 25 yards out from goal, and Dickinson delivered a freekick which was finished by Bruton. It was a clever finish from the number 11, but the linesman had his flag up for offside and the score remained 2-0.
Half-time: Synners 2, Carlisle City 0
Synners began the second-half on the front foot and almost grabbed an early goal. Alex Bruton crossed in a ball from the left after cutting in on his right foot. Danny Earl headed his effort narrowly wide of the near post.
Matty Wilson came close again after his effort was cleared off the line by James Johnston. Danny Boyle played his initial effort into the 6 yard box where Wilson was waiting to hit home. The shot looked as though it was flying into the net but the defender spread his body, making a good block.
After a plethora of Synners attacks, the third goal finally came when Danny Boyle picked out LIAM PRITCHARD with an impressive through ball. Boyle's pass carved the defence open and Pritchard finished the move by dinking the ball over the goalkeeper. Synners 3, 0 Carlisle City.
It was a game which was dominated by the home side, and Synners are now only 2 points off an automatic promotion place. We face Ryton & Crawcrook Albion on Friday night, and the game will be an interesting affair with both teams looking to solidify a promotion place come the end of the season.
