skilltrainingltd Northern League Division 1

Synthonia made one change from the starting eleven which defeated Northallerton Town, with Neil Campbell replacing Tyson Masters up front.

The first real opportunity on goal fell to Synners in the 10th minute when David Yale combined well with Nathan Jameson only to shoot wide of the target.

After 15 minutes West sent a ball over the top of the Synners defence for Steven Flockett to run onto, but his shot was well wide and never troubled Synners' goalkeeper Peter Keen.

Billingham were playing some good football and almost got a reward in the 16th minute. Michael Jameson received the ball wide left and cut inside to shoot right-footed, bringing a good save from West keeper Nicholas Farrel.

The hosts gradually came into the game, and in the 22nd minute Kevin Bromley saw his deflected shot gathered by Keen. Then Brian Stewart ran at goal and produced a good shot that was comfortably saved by Keen.

A minute later and it was Synthonia back on the attack, earning a free-kick in the inside right position. Simon Shaw's delivery was met with a header from Colin Iley that went just over the cross-bar.

West Auckland took the lead in the 24th minute. Flockett made a run down the right and sent in a strong low cross that was met by DALE JARDINE who fired into the net.

In the 26th minute Billingham almost cut the West rearguard open when David Yale threaded a ball through to Nathan Jameson who had timed his run perfectly. West skipper Brian Fairhurst was alert to read the danger and cut out the pass.

West Auckland had a couple of chances to extend their lead. In the 26th minute Ian Maddison found Stuart Owen, his shot was stopped by Keen with a low save to his right. Then 2 minutes later Stewart had an effort on goal, but was straight at Keen.

Synthonia had a great chance in the 40th minute. Nathan Jameson was fouled on the edge of the penalty area just to the right of centre. Simon Shaw's free-kick however, went well over the bar.

Half-time: West Auckland 1, Synners 0

In the 47th minute Synners had a great chance to level. A Yale free-kick from the left was sent back across goal from Michael Jameson to David Abel a yard out. But he couldn't stretch to get a connection with the goal gaping.

Synthonia continued to press, and on the hour mark Iley held the ball up well and laid it off to Yale. He cut inside to shoot, but his effort went wide.

Another great chance went begging in the 77th minute when a Shaw free-kick into a crowded penalty area dropped to Neil Campbell in the 6 yard box. The West defence were quick to react and cleared the danger. A minute later and it was Yale with a shot on goal. His shot from outside the penalty area went inches wide.

Another Shaw free-kick, floated into the box after 82 minutes, found Nathan Jameson. His strong header bringing a good save from Farrel.

West Auckland extended their lead in the 85th minute as Synners pushed up. DALE JARDINE latched onto a ball over the top of the Synners defence and produced a fine finish as he lobbed the ball over Keen and into the net.

The hosts finished the game off in fine style. Again a swift move forward opened up the Synthonia defence and substitute NEIL ROBINSON collected and created space for himself to produce a great shot that flew over Keen to make it 3-0.

No lack of effort from Billingham who just couldn't find the finishing touch, whereas West looked good value going forward with speed and produced 3 good finishes. Synthonia now have 5 days to re-group for the trip to Glasshoughton Welfare on Sunday for an extra preliminary round FA Cup tie.
