Billingham Town 0, Billingham Synthonia 0

Ebac Northern League Division 2

Promoted Synthonia made the short trip to Billingham Town and gained a point in a goal-less draw.

In a game of few chances, the closest either side came to breaking the deadlock was when Synthonia's Conor Winter hit the post. Town were reduced to ten-men when Stephen Oakley saw red after a challenge on Chay Liddle in the last minute of the first half.

Teams:
Billingham Town: Leeds, Moore, Dixon, Osmond, Oakley(c), Crossen, Davis, Dickinson (Beddow), Hutchinson, Lavan (Redman), Hogan. Subs not used; Dunlavey, Keogh, McDonald.
Billingham Synthonia: McLaren, Huggins, Robinson, Seaton, Rowbotham, Crust, Langstaff, McGurk (J Hillerby), Winter (Steel), Liddle(c), Wilson (Wyke). Subs not used; Craggs, Johnston.

After a fairly quiet opening 15 minutes, where Synners had more of the possession, but didn't test Town keeper Alex Leeds, the hosts threatened when a Chris Dickinson corner saw the loose ball in the box, in keeping in tune with the game; no chance could be created.

As the game approached half an hour, Synthonia threatened when John Seaton played in to Jordan Wilson, Leeds though, caught well under pressure. Wilson then forced a corner which Macaulay Langstaff sent in and after Leeds had punched the ball away, Liddle shot on goal was blocked by the home defence.

The best chance of the half, indeed the game, came in the 40th minute as Liddle played through to Winter who guided his shot past Leeds, but saw the ball strike the right hand post.

Town were reduced to ten men in the 44th minute when Skipper Stephen Oakley's reckless challenge on Liddle gave Referee Mr Cooper no option but to issue him a straight red card.

Half-time: Billingham Town 0, Synners 0

The second period continued to provide little in the way of clear cut scoring chances, rather snap shots or half chances as Liddle shot from distance which Leeds easily stopped and then after a trip on Matthew Crust, Langstaff tried his luck from the free-kick which was comfortable for Leeds.

Ashley Lavan shot wide of the target for Town, for Synthonia a shot from substitute Matthew Wyke deflected over and then Joe Hillerby shot straight at Leeds.

The last of the action nearly saw a goal as Steven Huggins crossed for Josh Rowbotham who saw his header caught by Leeds. For Town, their only shot on target as ex-Synners Matty Crossen did well to keep his shot down, only to see a Synners defender block.

Full-time: Billingham Town 0, Synners 0

Referee: Mr P Cooper, Assistants: K Barron, R Bird.

Attendance: 421

Next up for Synners is the last game of the league season and an away fixture at Brandon United on Saturday afternoon.
