Billingham Synthonia Tow Law Town
Match Report: 12/09/07
Billingham Synthonia 0, Tow Law Town 1

Arngrove Northern League Division 1

Synthonia went down 1-0 at home to Tow Law Town this evening at the PTS stadium.

Town had the first efforts on goal with a good scoring opportunity that went into Synners' goalkeeper Gary Riches' chest after 5 minutes. Then from the corner sent a headed effort over the bar.

Billingham were straight on the attack with Colin Iley having a shot saved by the Tow Law 'keeper. The resulting corner saw Shaun Hope head just wide.

After 17 minutes Tow Law had another goalscoring opportunity but again went wide of the mark.

Brian Close then had a shot which went over the cross-bar on 26 minutes.

The visitors had another chance to take the lead on 32 minutes when Neil Campbell gave away possesion for the Lawyer's to have another go at the Synners goal, Riches saving to parry out for a corner.

Town were putting the Billingham rearguard under increased pressure and on 36 minutes should have taken the lead. Lobbing a shot over defender Hope and 'Keeper Riches but clipping the cross-bar.

Synners then gave away a free-kick after 40 minutes which went wide, and after 44 minutes a corner was hooked clear after a goalmouth scramble. Billingham somehow managed to go in at the interval all square.

Half-time: Synners 0, Tow Law Town 0

The second half saw Colin Iley have the first chance to penetrate the Town defence, his cross winning a corner when there wasn't a lot of support to aim at.

Then after 64 minutes the Lawyer's took the lead. Some good work by ECCLES cutting in to the area passed Honeyman, and firing passed Riches.

Synthonia had a chance to draw level after 73 minutes when Joel Guy had an effort that went just wide. Then 3 minutes later Colin Iley got on the end of a good Jason Honeyman cross, but headed wide, a good opportunity to score.

A minute later on 77 minutes as Synners began to pile on the pressure, David Wells had a fine shot from distance, but never troubled the Town 'keeper.

The last chance fell again to Iley who managed to hit the target only for the Lawyers 'keeper Robinson to push out for a corner.

This being Synners' fourth consecutive League and Cup defeat, it is obvious that things are not yet gelling with the team this season.
