Billingham Synthonia Seaham Red Star
Match Report: 26/9/07
Billingham Synthonia 2, Seaham Red Star 2

Arngrove Northern League Division 1

On a chilly September evening at the PTS Stadium it was Seaham who started the game brighter and an effort as early as the 2nd minute to take the lead, the shot however, was fired over the crossbar.

After 5 minutes Seaham came forward again with a good shot at goal which Gary Riches saved to put out for a corner.

Then against the run of the early play with 8 minutes gone, Synners came forward and after confusion in the Red Star defence, NEIL CAMPBELL was on hand to prod the ball over the line to give Synners the lead.

The goal seemed to give Billingham a boost and immediately began to look the better side. After 11 minutes, Jason Honeyman made a good run down the right channel to set up Simon Shaw who sent in a decent effort that he just couldn't keep down.

Just as Billingham looked to be gaining control of the game, Seaham had an attack which saw BYRNE have an effort that took a deflection and looped over Gary Riches to give Red Star an equaliser.

Synners hit back immediatley, a minute later on 17 minutes Neil Campbell squared for Colin Iley on the six-yard line, instead of shooting himself, Iley made a clever cut-back for MICHAEL CATER to drill home and regain the lead.

Seaham were back at Billingham and after 19 minutes had a chance to level. This time 'keeper Riches collected from a flick-on.

In an entertaining first half, the game ebbed and flowed with both teams showing good football.

Half-time: Synners 2, Seaham Red Star 1

It didn't take long for the visitors to draw level and after 50 minutes PRICE scored for Seaham.

As in the first period the game was entertaining, with both sides looking capable of grabbing the points.

Billingham almost nicked a late winner when on 82 minutes substitute Lee Flanagan squared for Colin Iley to shoot, only to see the Red Star 'keeper save.
