Skilltrainingltd Northern League Division 1
Synners opened the 2008-09 season with a home game against Northallerton Town on a breezy and overcast August afternoon. There were debuts handed to 5 players, Peter Keen in goal, David Abel, David Yale, Nathan Jameson and Tyson Masters.
Synners, kicking against the wind in the first half, had a golden opportunity as early as the 4th minute. A David Yale corner from the left was headed goalward by Nathan Jameson, and the ball fell to Tyson Masters who prodded the ball just wide of the upright.
The visitors then put Synners under some pressure. After 9 minutes David Turner found space on the right to send in a cross that Peter Keen did well to catch. Then in the 14th minute Colin Anderson got the better of Simon Shaw to run in on goal. His shot however, was straight into the side netting.
In the 17th minute, a David Abel long pass found Yale, who sent Masters clear down the right flank. He sent in a cross to Colin Iley who was arriving late, and he guided his header back across goal but just wide of the post.
Billingham took the lead in the 28th minute when Masters' speed forced Town into conceding a corner. Yale sent a short corner to Craig Perry who crossed first time, and TYSON MASTERS flicked the ball into the net.
Northallerton came straight back at Synners, and a minute later Daniel Hanafin made a run into the penalty area from the right, but shot straight at Synners 'keeper Keen.
Yale was again in the thick of the action in the 34th minute when he drifted in from the right flank to fire in a left foot shot that deflected wide for a corner.
Masters' debut ended in the 40th minute when he took a knock on the ankle and was carried off with suspected ligament damage that could see him missing for a number of weeks. He was replaced by Neil Campbell.
Synthonia could have added another just before half time when Steven Baynes made a strong run forward from left-back. But the shot went well wide of Pisani's goal.
Half-time: Synners 1, Northallerton 0
Synners extended their lead in the 49th minute when Colin Iley found NATHAN JAMESON who rifled in a precision shot that gave Town 'keeper Pisani little chance as it flew into the net.
In the 56th minute Town came forward and won a free-kick on the right. Lee Blythway sent in a good delivery but it eluded everyone and went behind harmlessly for a goal kick.
Billingham created a couple of half chances midway through the 2nd period. Firstly, Michael Jameson had an effort on goal which was straight at Pisani, then Perry crossed for Campbell, but he guided his header wide.
Town had a great chance to pull one back in the 70th minute when a ball from the left was sent across the face of goal. Baynes was alert to cut out the danger, leaving Abel to clear.
Synthonia made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute. A Nathan Jameson ball forward saw COLIN ILEY run into space and he fired home passed the onrushing Pisani.
Northallerton had their best opportunity in the 81st minute. Colin Anderson sent Gary Shardha clear, who beat the offside trap and advanced on goal. His square ball should have ended in the back of the net from Gabriel Radu, but he side footed wide.
Synners wrapped up the game in the 87th minute. Nathan Jameson's shot was tipped over the bar by Pisani. The resulting Yale corner saw Campbell flick the ball on to COLIN ILEY who made no mistake from close range.
An impressive start to the season from Billingham, who now face a midweek trip to West Auckland Town on Tuesday evening.
