Match Report: 25/08/07 Billingham Synthonia 1, Sunderland Nissan 3
Arngrove Northern League Division 1
Synners lost their first game of the season in bright summer sunshine at the PTS Stadium this afternoon.
Nissan took just 3 minutes to go ahead, when they cut open the Billingham rearguard.
The Sunderland outfit looked sleek as they continued to put Synners under pressure.
After 10 minutes Nissan came forward again but were to be denied by a Gary Riches save.
Then after 20 minutes, Nissan made another breakthrough. A shot, which 'Keeper Riches saved but failed to hold, was followed up and ended up in the back of the net.
Synners were the forced to make a substitution on 21 minutes when Joel Guy went down with an ankle injury and was replaced by Paul Atkinson.
Just before half-time Billingham made a sceond substitution with Gary Hamilton replacing Neil Radigan in the centre of midfield.
Half-time: Synners 0, Nissan 2
The second half was a lot more even as Synners looked to get back in the game. They had made a third sub with Stephen Gamble replacing David Wells, who was making his first start of the season.
Nissan, however, extended their lead after 75 minutes with a good goal.
Synners eventually found a way through a minute later, when on 76 minutes COLIN ILEY was on hand again with a good finish. This was Iley's 6th goal in a five game streak where he has scored in every game.
That was to be the only consolation in a game where Nissan were the much better side. Obviously, this is the standard that Billingham must aspire to if they are going to put any pressure on the top teams this season.
